Welcome back to our look at Mecum’s upcoming 2022 Kissimmee auction. The countdown to opening day is just about 14 days now. Perusing the Corvette docket, we currently see 360 Corvettes listed which is more than double the number of consignments from 2 weeks ago. Expect a few more to be added as the date draws nearer.

Past previews focused on the Corvette Super Sport, Gulf One, and the C2 Z06 equipped Corvettes from Mecum’s Once in a Lifetime Corvette Offering. This time we’re going to focus on a diverse quartet of first and second generation cars ranging from a pilot line 1966 L88 to an ultra-rare 1957 airbox fuelie.

Mecum Auctions

Lot F158: 1960 Race Rat Tanker – When we think of big tank or “tanker” Corvettes, we generally think of C2’s. However, tankers were available to savvy buyers and racers on C1 Corvettes as well. In 1960, 10 big tank Corvettes were built. This 1960 fuelie was ordered through Nickey Chevrolet by George Reed to complete in the 1960 Sebring 12 hour race. In addition to the 315hp engine, Reed selected heavy duty suspension, heavy duty brakes, and a 4-speed transmission. Upon delivery to Sebring, Zora Arkus Duntov himself assisted with the final race prep. The car went on to win its class and finish 16th overall. Today the car is in excellent restored condition and has been displayed at top events such as the 2004 and 2014 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, the 2009 Los Angeles Concours d’Elegance, the 2010 NCRS 50th Anniversary display, and the 2013 Greenwich Concours d’Elegance. It’s also an NCRS American Heritage Award recipient.

1960 Corvette

Lot F164: 1957 Big Brake Airbox Fuelie – This well-known straight axle is one of 44 produced with RPO 579E, the fresh airbox intake. It’s also 1 of 54 with heavy duty brakes and suspension. Other options include a fuel injected engine, 4-speed transmission, and wider 5.5″ wheels. The car was raced in SCCA events across the country throughout its early life. Since that time, it’s been restored back to stock form and lays claimed to our hobby’s top awards including multiple NCRS Top Flights, Bloomington Gold, and 2 Bloomington Special Collections. It’s been featured in Vette Vues magazine and participated in the 75th anniversary Monterrey historics. It’s being offered from the John Justo collection with copious documentation, awards, and restoration photos.

1957 Big Brake Airbox Fuelie

Lot S113: 8,500-mile unrestored 1967 427/435 Coupe – We first saw the “Vault Find” 1967 Corvette at the 2017 Mecum Indy auction where it sold for $675,000 from the original owner’s family. The Marina Blue on blue 435hp coupe remains in unrestored, original condition with just 8,533 miles on the odometer. The option list includes the 435hp engine, M21 4-speed, F41 suspension, and 4.11 rear end. It’s never been shown or judged and comes documented with the window sticker, Protect-O-Plate, and car shipper.

8,500-mile unrestored 1967 427/435 Coupe

Lot S237: 1966 Pilot Line L88 Coupe – This Sting Ray is one of the “Four Kings,” 1966 Corvette factory racers. It’s the first known Corvette factory-prepared for Luigi Chinetti’s NART team, the first built with shoulder harnesses, and the second to be fitted with the cowl-induction fresh air hood. The intent was to test aluminum cylinder heads and other racing bits in the 1966 Sebring 12 hours. Pedro Rodriguez and Mario Andretti were to be the drivers, but they ended up in one of Chinetti’s Ferrari’s instead. Future pilots included Harold Whims, Don Yenko, John Finger, and John “Sam” Henderson. They completed at many notable tracks such as Daytona, Talladega, Charlotte Motor Raceway, Virginia International Raceway, Marlboro Motor Raceway, and Road Atlanta among others. The L88 engine sports a 1965-dated intake manifold and January 1966 dated aluminum cylinder heads. Other track-spec options include heater and defroster delete, radio delete, F41 suspension, Positraction rear axle, heavy-duty brakes, transistor ignition, M22 4-speed, and a 36 gallon gas tank. It’s extensively documented and has been shown at numerous national events over the last decade including 2014 and 2020 Bloomington Gold Collections, 2016 MCACN Corvette Legends Invitational, and the 2014 Corvettes at Carlisle Race Car Reunion.

1966 Pilot Line L88 Coupe

Mecum’s monster 2022 Kissimmee auction will take place January 6th-16th at the Osceola Heritage Park. MotorTrend TV, MotorTrend+, and Discovery will have live coverage Wednesday, January 12th – Saturday, January 15th. Approximately 3,500 cars are expected. Keep an eye here and on the Mecum website as new additions are being added daily.

If your New Year’s Resolutions include the addition of an investment-quality collector Corvette, or perhaps you’re looking for something fun to drive in 2022, our friends at Corvette Mike in Anaheim, California can help you find the perfect Corvette for the new year!

Corvette Mike is one of the top destinations for buying high-quality Corvettes! The knowledgeable staff is there to assist in finding just the right pre-owned or classic Corvette for you. Today we hit their website to check out the current online inventory and came up with these three Corvettes as our favorites for the month of December.

Maybe at this point, you’re more of a seller than a buyer? Corvette Mike skips the auto auctions and only buys premium cars from private enthusiasts and they purchase cars from across the nation so if you have a low-mileage or rare Corvette that you are ready to part with, reach out to Corvette Mike and let them know what you got.

1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe

For the collector who wants to own one of the most iconic Corvettes in the model’s 69-year run, the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray Sport Coupe is it. Chevrolet redesigned the Corvette in 1963 and for the first time, it came from the factory as a hardtop coupe. Zora Arkus-Duntov offered three different transmissions and four different engine performance options with the fuel injected 327/360hp L84 option reigning supreme. But what made the 1963 Coupe truly unique was the split rear window offered only in the inaugural year of the C2 before Zora successfully lobbied GM Design to change it to a single rear window in 1964.

1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe

The original owner of this 1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe must have been wanting to drive the ultimate street Corvette when he placed his order. Outfitted in Riverside Red and a Black interior, the original buyer made sure to check the box on the 327/360 Fuelie V8 as well as the four-speed manual transmission, while power windows, AM/FM radio, and whitewall tires rounded out the options. We can imagine it was quite at home cruising the boulevards back in the day.

1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe

This ’63 Fuelie Sting Ray has been meticulously detailed, undergone a frame-off restoration, and only 99 miles are showing on the odometer. This Corvette is still equipped with the original L84 engine as certified by Al Grenning’s C.C.A.S. service and the Trim Tag has also been verified. Further documentation includes the N.C.R.S. Shipping Data Report.

The Fuel Injected 1963 Corvette Sting Ray Sport Coupe would be the center point of any automotive collection. For details or more information, contact Tim at 714-630-0700.

1996 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible

When C4 production finally came to an end in ’96 after 12 years, Chevrolet knew they had to send it off with a bang, not a whimper. And since the ZR-1 was discontinued in ’95, there was definitely a void that needed to be filled!

1996 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible

The name “Grand Sport” had been used once before. It was for the fabled early ’60’s Corvette race cars helmed by legendary drivers such as Bob Bondurant, Roger Penske, A.J. Foyt, and Dr. Dick Thompson, among others. For this ’96 Special Edition, G.M. thought it fitting that the name should be brought back again!

We love the 1996 Corvette Grand Sport for what it offered to Corvette buyers – a limited edition Corvette with a unique engine to celebrate the end of a generation. Limited to 1,000 units overall, Chevrolet produced 810 coupes and 190 convertibles in Admiral Blue with a White full-length body stripe and Red hash marks on the front fenders. They also received a special black-painted version of the ZR-1 wheels with the coupes getting the import flares added to the body so the rear wheels would fit appropriately.

1996 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible

The Grand Sport’s LT-4 engine was rated at 330hp, which was 30 more than the standard LT-1 engine. However, the car’s performance feels considerably more powerful than the advertised increase would indicate!.

1996 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible

Corvette Mike acquired this ’96 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible by the original owner who only put 19,277 miles on the odometer. This GS is #117 in the series and is fully documented with all books, manuals, original window sticker, build sheet, and more. It also received a high score from the NCRS who awarded it Top Flight status. Celebrate the C4’s end of the line by adding this highly collectible Grand Sport to your stable.

This 1996 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible is offered for $52,900. Call Tim at 714-630-0700 for more information.

2016 Corvette Z06 Coupe

This 2016 Corvette Z06 with a seven-speed manual transmission, Magnetic Selective Ride Control, and the Z07 Performance Package was originally ordered from Legacy Chevrolet in Columbus, Georgia before it was acquired from the original owner by Corvette Mike in the fall of 2021. Powered by the 6.2-liter supercharged LT4 V8 engine that was rated for 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, this Z06 Coupe has just under 6K miles on the odometer and is documented with the original window sticker, manufacturer’s literature, and a clean CarFax report.

2016 Corvette Z06 Coupe

The Z06 is finished in Arctic White with Kalahari leather interior and features a full-length Black racing stripe across the hood, roof, and rear deck of the car. It’s outfitted with the level three visible carbon fiber aerodynamics package that includes the aggressive front splitter and rear wickerbill across the rear spoiler. It also includes a painted and transparent roof panel. Inside you’ll find the carbon fiber trim package surrounding the center stack and instrument cluster.

2016 Corvette Z06 Coupe

The Corvette Z06 sits on staggered setup of 19″/20″ Chrome-finished aluminum wheels with Corvette logo center caps. The rubber is currently mixed with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires up front and Continental Extreme Contact tires (non-runflats) in the rear. With the Z07 Performance Package comes Brembo’s carbon-ceramic brakes and red brake calipers.

Corvette Mike is offering this low-mileage one-owner 2016 Corvette Z06 for $89,900. Are you ready to be its next caretaker? Contact Tim at 714-630-0700 today.

ACS Composite Offers Rock Guards and 5VM Side Rockers for C8 Corvette and Their C7 Z06 Front Splitter Fits All C7 Models

ACS Composite Offers Rock Guards and 5VM Side Rockers for C8 Corvette and Their C7 Z06 Front Splitter Fits All C7 Models

Congratulations to those of you out there that own the C7 or C8 Corvette. These Corvettes are among the best that has ever been made and we are sure that you’ll get years of enjoyment from them. While the front engine and mid-engine Corvettes are about as different as they can be, they share many things including the ability to be protected and customized by our friends at ACS Composite.

ACS Composite is a leader in the Corvette aftermarket for providing owners with the highest quality of parts and accessories specifically designed to fit your Corvette. Their current selection of parts and accessories for the C7/C8 includes a number of different spoilers, front splitters, and side rocker panels, plus they offer other enhancements that help protect your investment while you are enjoying your Corvette.

This month we are sharing some of the best-selling products from ACS Composite. We show off the ACS C8 Corvette Rock Guards which are one of the best ways to protect your Corvette from rock chips and road debris, as well as the ACS 5VM Side Rockers for the C8 which also protects your Corvette while making it appear more aggressive. Finally, the ACS C7 Z06 front splitter has been re-engineered to fit your C7 Stingray as well as the Grand Sport and Z06 models.

C8 Corvette Rock Guards

The C8 Corvette’s beautiful mid-engine design does offer a bit of the traditional “Coke bottle” shape as the Stingray’s rear end is wider to accommodate the larger rear tires as well as offer the ability for the side air intakes to capture as much air as possible. That design also lends itself for the front Michelins to pick up rocks and other road debris and launch it rearward against the side of your car. While costly solutions like paint protection film (PPF) can help minimize the damage to your exterior paint, these new C8 Corvette Rock Guards from ACS Composite offers the ultimate protection to guard your Corvette’s exterior against rocks and other debris.

C8 Corvette Rock Guards

Utilizing GM’s stock accessory splash guards as a starting point, ACS Composite’s C8 Rock Guards enhances that design for added protection with features that include a wider edge, a bladed shield that helps control rocks and road debris inside the wheel well, and an added downward extension that provides great stopping power front and back.

C8 Corvette Rock Guards

Manufactured from ACS Composite’s proprietary PC Composite material, your C8 Rock guards are designed to withstand extreme temperatures as well as rock strikes projected by the spinning wheels.

C8 Corvette Rock Guards

Installation is easy and takes as little as 30 minutes as the C8 Rock Guards use the stock OEM mounting points in the wheel wheels so no drilling or two-sided tape is required. ACS Composite also offers an install video that can be found on the company’s YouTube Channel. The C8 Rock Guards are sold as a set of four (2 front/2 rear) for $499 with Free Shipping included.

5VM Side Rockers for the C8 Corvette

If you are in the camp that loves the aggressive posture of the OEM 5VM C8 side skirts with the signature winglets in front of the rear wheels, ACS Composite has improved upon GM’s design with their ACS 5VM Carbon Flash Rockers for the C8 Corvette. Like the 1VM rockers, ACS has created an undertray extension to the side rockers which offers protection to the rolled painted body panel underneath the C8, and ACS uses a custom-designed rocker bracket that doesn’t require the side hole to be drilled as is the case with the dealer-installed OEM version.

5VM Side Rockers for the C8 Corvette

ACS Composite already offers their own version of the 5VM Front Splitter and these 5VM C8 Rocker Panels in Carbon Flash Metallic will compliment that look. Made from highly durable PC Composite material, the black molded side rockers are heat resistant and with a black substrate, scrapes or rock chips will not show through.

5VM Side Rockers for the C8 Corvette

Similar to the RPO code 5W8, these 5VM C8 side rockers are finished in Carbon Flash Black or CFZ, and it will match all of the C8 Corvette’s exterior accents including the front grille, rear diffuser, the side intake boomerang, and more.

5VM Side Rockers for the C8 Corvette

ACS Composite will begin shipping their 5VM Carbon Flash Black C8 Rockers on September 20th, and a dedicated install video will be coming shortly. The 5VM C8 Side Rockers are priced at $1,948 and free shipping is included.

ACS C7 Z06 Splitter

General Motors spent a considerable amount of time in aero-testing the C7 Corvette Z06’s aerodynamic kit for the Z07 Performance Package. ACS has taken that Z06/Z07 splitter and redesigned it in CAD and CNC machined it from the ground up with slight improvements over the original design and the end result is a clean-looking, durable, and functional aerodynamic splitter that will benefit the front of your C7 Corvette Stingray as well as the widebody Grand Sport and Z06 models.

ACS C7 Z06 Splitter

The ACS Z06 Front Splitter is made from PC Composite which is a manufacturing process generally reserved for high-volume production parts. These black molded splitters offer high strength and durability, as well as resistance to heat and scraping which makes them perfect for mounting on the front of your C7 Corvette. If durability is important to you, the ACS Z06 splitter helps minimize curb rash and mild road hazards. ACS describes it as the last Z06 Splitter your Corvette will ever need!

The C7 Z06 Splitter also features an optional undertray for those track warriors looking for the ultimate aerodynamic performance from their cars. The integrated undertray option enhances the aerodynamics by keeping all edges smooth and directing air with a minimum amount of turbulence. The undertray also has revised brake cooling ducts and features extra mounting points with linear fins to keep the air flowing smoothly as possible

ACS C7 Z06 Splitter

You can further customize the look of your C7 with the addition of the Stage 2 and Stage 3 deflectors. Mounted on the corners of the C7 splitter, the deflectors help to move and reduce the airflow off the ends of the splitter. The Stage 2 deflectors are smaller and more conservative than the larger Stage 3 deflectors, and the OEM deflectors can be used with the ACS C7 Z06 Front Splitter.

ACS C7 Z06 Splitter

The ACS C7 Z06 Front Splitters are available for the C7 Corvette Stingray as well as the C7 Grand Sport and Z06 models with a starting price of $499.00 and shipping is free! An installation video is also available on the ACS Composite YouTube channel.

When you enter to win this fabulous Corvette, you are helping the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Located in Knoxville, Iowa, they are the only museum dedicated to sprint car racing. This annual fundraiser helps to keep that mission going!

Saturday is the Deadline to Enter to Win This 2021 Corvette Stingray

We can imagine an improvement in our morning commute behind the wheel of this 2021 Corvette Stingray that’s equipped with the award-winning 6.2L LT2 V8 with 495-hp while the 8-speed dual-clutch transmission offers both manual and auto modes. The Z51 Performance Package adds larger brakes and suspension package and includes Michelin summer tires and the NPP Dual-Mode exhaust which offers the perfect soundtrack for your driving adventures.

Saturday is the Deadline to Enter to Win This 2021 Corvette Stingray

As this car is offered by the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum, let’s talk about its sprint capabilities. With its improved mid-engine configuration with 60% of the car’s weight over the rear tires, the C8 Corvette rockets 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds and runs the quarter-mile in 11.2 seconds, making it the quickest base model Corvette ever produced. Yet the Stingray also gets incredible good gas mileage and it’s not uncommon for owners to achieve 30 mpg or higher while on the highway.

TITLE

The Corvette designers were inspired by fighter jets so it’s no surprise that the interior of the Stingray is oriented totally to the driver like that of a cockpit. Inside is the Sky Cool Gray leather interior with GT1 seats, Bose 10-Speaker Sound System, and Chevrolet’s infotainment system on an 8-inch color touch screen.

You can help the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum by making an online donation and you might just drive home a brand new 2021 Corvette Stingray. The drawing is this Saturday, August 14th at 10:00 PM CDT.

Get 30% More Entries to Win the 60th Anniversary Cunningham C8 Corvette

The limited-edition 60th Anniversary Cunningham C8 offered by the Chip Miller Amyloidosis Foundation will be given away on October 1st so now is a great time to add some tickets and help in the fight against this rare disease. To help sweeten the deal, CorvetteBlogger readers get 30% bonus entries on donations of $25 or more!

After talking about this limited edition Cunningham C8 Corvette for nearly half a year, it sure is great to finally see real photos of the car. Here it is outside of Lingenfelter Performance Engineering where it’s showing off the unique design elements. Finished in Corvette’s familiar international racing colors of White with Blue racing stripes, the most distinctive element is the bespoke custom wing designed by Peter Stevens. This part of the car came out much better than the original renderings and to accommodate for the higher wing, the rearview camera housing was raised up almost like a shark’s fin.

Get 30% More Entries to Win the 60th Anniversary Cunningham C8 Corvette

Not on the original renderings are the two air ducts that have been added to the rear quarter panels which we assume sends additional air into the 600-hp naturally aspirated LT2 engine. Lingenfelter added a Performance Design carbon fiber intake manifold and CORSA’s sport-tuned headers and airbox and early dyno testing shows the Cunningham Lingenfelter LT2 motor produces 20% more power at the wheels than the stock C8.

The 60th Anniversary Cunningham C8 Corvette has a 3LT interior and is outfitted with the two-tone blue interior complete with the Cunningham logo embroidered on the headrests. Perhaps the most polarizing aspect of the car is the throwback kidney bean wheels from HRE that were designed to look like the racing wheels worn by the No.3 1960 Corvette at Le Mans but we find it does give the Corvette a different look with the vintage-inspired wheels.

Get 30% More Entries to Win the 60th Anniversary Cunningham C8 Corvette

This limited-edition C8 model is a modern-day tribute to the Briggs Cunningham 1960 Corvette that won its class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Only 60 of these will be offered with the Chip Miller Amyloidosis Foundation winner bringing home number 33.

Briggs Cunningham was a gentleman racer who fielded three specially modified 1960 Corvettes at the 24 Hours of Le Mans where they would compete on the world stage of racing. Of the three Corvettes, it was the No.3 Corvette that would take the checkered flag, winning its class and finishing 8th overall. Following the race, those 1960 Corvettes were returned to the USA where they were reverted to nearly stock form and sold.

Get 30% More Entries to Win the 60th Anniversary Cunningham C8 Corvette

As one of the co-founders of the Corvettes at Carlisle show, Chip Miller already had an impressive Corvette collection in his own right, but what he really wanted to find was that missing Le Mans-winning #3 1960 Corvette. A multi-year pursuit of the car by the “Corvette Hunter” Kevin Mackay finally paid off. Chip purchased the car and had Kevin restore it back to its 1960 Le Mans specs. Sadly, Chip passed away in 2004 from a rare disease known as amyloidosis. Chevrolet Offers New Options, Enhancements, and a Higher Price for the 2022 Corvette Stingray

Chevrolet Offers New Options, Enhancements and a Higher Price for the 2022 Corvette Stingray

We’ve spent pretty much most of Wednesday following the launch of the 2022 Corvette IMSA GTLM Championship Editions and now we’ve received the official release detailing the new model as well as the other options and upgrades available for the 2022 model year. We recap the C8.R Special Edition below, but let’s first take a look at the other new information for the 2022 model year.

Probably the most important detail was saved for last in the release as Chevrolet is raising the starting MSRP price by $1,200 for the 2022 Corvette Coupe from $60,995 to $62,195, and the 1LT Convertible will see an increase of $1,500 as it will now retail for $69,995, up from $68,495. Chevy only revealed the 1LT base price for both models so it’s possible the upper levels might see a different rate of increase as that’s where the majority of production has been.

Chevy engineers have tweaked the Stingray’s LT2 V8 engine for 2022 with an upgraded direct injection fuel system, improved engine calibrations, and an enhanced Active Fuel Management range. Those changes don’t offer any additional improvement in the performance numbers and the engine remains rated at 490 hp (non-NPP) or 495 hp with the NPP performance exhaust system.

Chevrolet also released a new image of the new low-profile rear spoiler which will be offered on non-Z51 models. The new spoiler also comes with the Z51 front spoiler which helps provide an aerodynamic balance to the car.

Three new colors have already been revealed and hopefully, we might see them for real on a CTF car in the near future. Those colors are Hypersonic Gray, Caffeine and Amplify Orange.

2022 IMSA GLTM Championship Edition

Finally, Chevy made our day with the announcement of the first official special edition for the C8 Corvette generation. The official name is the 2022 IMSA GTLM Championship Edition and it’s available in Accelerate Yellow or Hypersonic Gray signifying the No. 3 and No. 4 liveries on Corvette Racing’s C8.Rs. Each car has reversed stripes and a C8.R Edition graphic is behind the side intakes. The interior features the Strike Yellow/Sky Cool Gray GT2 seats (upgradeable to Competition Seats) with Yellow seatbelts and a very cool-looking interior plaque featuring the build number. Only 1,000 will be offered and each will come with a No.3 or No.4 Corvette C8.R car cover that matches the car’s color scheme.

Pricing for the IMSA GTLM Championship Edition adds $6,595 to the cost of the car. Based on the new rates, the base price for the Coupe would be $86,735 and the Convertible would start at $94,035.

CHEVROLET INTRODUCES SPECIAL EDITION 2022 CORVETTE STINGRAY

To celebrate Corvette C8.R IMSA GTLM 2020 season dominance, Corvette Stingray enters model year 2022 with a special edition, plus new exterior color and spoiler options

DETROIT – Chevrolet took over the Raceway at Belle Isle Park today to celebrate Corvette Racing’s dominant 2020 season by introducing the 2022 Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Edition.

In left-hand drive markets, Chevrolet will release just 1,000 of these distinctively styled Corvettes, which resemble the No. 3 and No. 4 Corvette C8.R race cars. These special edition supercars were designed to commemorate the mid-engine Corvette C8.R’s inaugural season. In 2020, Corvette Racing swept IMSA’s sports car championship series, taking the Manufacturers, Drivers and Team titles.

Corvette Racing’s Jordan Taylor and Antonio Garcia drove coupe and convertible No. 3 Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Editions across Belle Isle’s MacArthur Bridge and onto the track. Teammate Nick Tandy led on track in a Corvette Stingray convertible, the official pace car of the 2021 Detroit Grand Prix. Corvette Racing driver Tommy Milner followed the group in the No. 4 Corvette C8.R race car.

“Racing has been part of the Corvette’s DNA from nearly the beginning,” said Laura Klauser, General Motors Sports Car Program manager. “Both the Corvette Stingray and C8.R have seen tremendous success capitalizing on the benefits of a mid-engine platform – and we’re just getting started.”

Corvette Racing shined during IMSA’s 2020 sports car championship series, capturing six victories and seven pole positions, and setting the fastest class race laps in six events. During the 2020 series, Chevrolet won the GT Manufacturers title – its 13th since 2001. Taylor, Garcia, and the No. 3 Corvette C8.R crew won the GTLM Drivers and Team championships.

The C8.R races on home turf in Detroit for the first time Saturday, June 12. The Chevrolet Sports Car Classic will air live at 5 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

IMSA GTLM Championship Edition

The 2022 Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Edition is based on the 3LT trim with Z51 Performance Package. Each car includes Corvette Racing-themed graphics packages. Accelerate Yellow No. 3 editions feature gray graphics and Hypersonic Gray No. 4 editions feature yellow accents.

Additional exterior content (varies by market):

  • High-wing spoiler in Carbon Flash
  • Yellow brake calipers
  • Black Trident design wheels, with the “Jake” logo on the center caps, and black lug nuts
  • Exterior mirrors in Carbon Flash
  • Black side rockers
  • Splash guards

Inside, the Special Edition features a Strike Yellow and Sky Cool Gray cabin that mimics the exterior yellow and gray racing theme, with standard GT2 seats (Competition Sport seats are available), along with yellow seat belts and a C8.R Special Edition numbered plaque.

Each car comes with a custom-fitted indoor car cover rendered to the appearance of the No. 3 or No. 4 Corvette C8.R race car, per each Special Edition’s color and graphic scheme.

The IMSA GTLM Championship Edition package starts at $6,595. The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price excludes tax.

Corvette for 2022

In addition to the all-new IMSA GTLM Championship Edition, the 2022 Corvette Stingray lineup features three new exterior colors: Hypersonic Gray, Caffeine and Amplify Orange Tintcoat1. A new low-profile rear spoiler and the Z51 design front splitter will be offered on non-Z51 models.

Corvette Stingray’s LT2 6.2L V-8 engine enters 2022 with an upgraded direct injection fuel system, improved engine calibration and an enhanced Active Fuel Management range. It remains rated at 490 horsepower or 495 horsepower, with the available performance exhaust system. Driving through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, a Z51-equipped model is capable of 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds.

The mid-engine Corvette Stingray is offered in coupe and convertible models in 1LT, 2LT and 3LT trims, with the Z51 Performance Package available on all trims. Magnetic Ride Control is available with or without the Z51 Performance Package. Coupes include a removable roof panel that stores in the rear trunk, and convertibles include a power-retractable hardtop.

Dual cargo compartments offer a total of 12.6 cubic feet of cargo volume, with a trunk large enough for two sets of golf clubs.

The 2022 Corvette Stingray visualizer is now live on Chevrolet.com. Dealers will begin taking orders July 1, starting at $62,195, including destination freight charge, for coupe models and $69,695, including DFC, for the convertible. The MSRP excludes tax, title, license, dealer fees and optional equipment. Bowling Green Assembly will begin model year 2022 production in late third quarter.

Bob vs the Mob: Why Sit on the Sidelines When You Could Be Enjoying a C8 Corvette Today

Bob vs the Mob: Why Sit on the Sidelines When You Could Be Enjoying a C8 Corvette Today

Prior to the arrival of the C8 Corvette, I would have told you that there is no reason to pay more than sticker for a new Corvette as there are plenty of dealers, including most of the top volume sellers, who will gladly sell you a new Corvettes at MSRP. We figured that initial demand would be high during the roll-out and then pricing would fall back to normal by the end of the first model year production.

But interest in the first-ever mid-engine Corvette exploded following the reveal and buyers responded by selling out the first year production of the car even before the first customer-ordered model was produced. Then came the UAW strike in late 2019 followed by the COVID pandemic in March of 2020 which closed the plant for two full months and delayed launching the 2nd shift until August 2020.

Those two events cut initial projections for a 40K unit model run and even after extending the model year for several months, Chevrolet built just half that number. Demand was even stronger now as supply fell dramatically, and for many buyers, the only opportunity to purchase a C8 Corvette would come on the secondary market where prices ranged from $5,000-$20,000 over MSRP.

We’ve written on this phenomenon a couple of times, including our “Five reasons to pay more than MSRP for a new Corvette” which was factual in its content, yet widely panned by the “Corvette Pricing Mob” who is quick to call anyone an idiot or a moron for paying more than sticker for their new Corvette. Seriously, just read the comments on that page.

Last week, we offered a sort of a follow up to that with a YouTuber named Fourwheel Trader who broke down C8 Corvette pricing utilizing real-world data and he found that you could essentially buy a new Corvette, enjoy it for up to 10,000 miles, and then sell it for a profit. Pretty remarkable considering the Corvette is a mass-produced American sports car that will soon be starting its third year of production with demand still as high as ever.

That I have to explain all this before getting to the gist of this article is also telling, and the comments I am sure will reflect what we are about to share. This post below comes from the C8 Corvette Facebook Group from Steven Settingsgaard and it really hit home with us. He calls it a “Short Story of Bob vs the Mob:”

Spring of 2020: Bob wants a C8 Coupe but doesn’t want to wait so he gladly pays $20K over sticker.

The Angry Price Mob feels they are too entitled to wait and too smart to pay over MSRP so they lash out. “You idiot, in a year that car will be worth $40K less than you paid. Only a moron doesn’t wait, these prices will crash like all Corvettes do.”

Spring of 2021: Bob has now enjoyed his C8 for a full year but he decides he would like an HTC. He sells his “used” coupe for what he paid for it, $20K over sticker.

The Angry Price Mob is still waiting but still too smart to overpay so they lash out at Bob once again, this time it’s for selling. “That’s price gouging!” “You don’t love Corvettes as much as I do, I would never sell for just money!”

Bob ignores the mob again and immediately buys an HTC for $20K over sticker and at the same time puts a deposit down on a Z06.

The Angry Mob: “What a complete moron you are, I can’t wait to see what you have to say a year from now when you’ve lost your ass on that HTC! I will wait a year and buy that car off you for $40K less than you paid for it!”

Spring of 2022: Bob’s Z06 comes in so Bob sells his HTC for $10K over original sticker and has enjoyed the 2 C8s now for 2 full years. His total depreciation for the period is $10K.

The Angry Price Mob is still waiting, still entitled, and still too smart to “overpay.” So they lash out at Bob again. “You want $10K over sticker for a used car, now that they are “everywhere? Greedy price gouger!”

Bob: Drove C8s for two full years and now in 2022 is driving his Z06 and suffered almost no loss for it.

The Angry Price Mob: Still too entitled and too impatient to order a car; still too smart to overpay; still has never owned a C8; still hurling insults and trolling ads; still too blind or too stubborn to see they’ve been wrong all this time.

Moral: Be more like Bob. At least stand quietly on the sidelines and recognize when you’ve been proven wrong.

Just think of all the things we as Americans buy over the list price because it brings us immediate satisfaction. Before COVID, you might have paid more to get good seats for a sporting event or to attend the big concert in town that was sold out. Even little things will have us spending more than lower priced items if it means that we can get it delivered quicker. You can thank Amazon’s two-day Prime shipping for that. Look at the housing market right now where new houses are selling well over listing price. The point is that Americans have the highest level of disposable income and spending that on the things we love and want is about the most American thing ever. So don’t let the online Corvette Pricing Mob beat you down when it comes to buying America’s favorite sports car. They will still be waiting and complaining while you’re out there driving the American dream!

If you’re a soon-to-be new C8 Corvette owner looking for some ideas on customizing Chevy’s mid-engine plastic fantastic, check out these photos and a video from Sean Starks of Rancho Cucamonga, California. Sean got the 2020 Corvette at MSRP from Selman Chevrolet in Orange, CA and immediately set out to make it his own. In fact, his custom vanity plate says just that: MYOWNC8.

We always think that great-looking rides start with the wheels. Avant Garde made a custom set of their AG F338 Mono-forged wheels in a staggered 20/21-inch set-up, and then color-matched them to Sean’s Rapid Blue Coupe with Titanium accents. With new wheels comes new Michelin Pilot Sport 4 Tires. On the fronts, the 20X9-inch wheels are wearing tires sized at 255/30ZR20X while the rear wheels are 21X12-inches and fitted with 325/25ZR21X.

As you look at those custom wheels, you will notice the huge R1 Concept brake kit behind them. The big break kit features 405mm 8-piston calipers with 16-inch rotors in the front and 380mm 6piston calipers with 15-inch rotors in the rear. The kit also accommodates the rear electronic brake which is built into the rear caliper assembly.

Not content with the plastic-looking rear engine compartment surround, Sean took his C8 Corvette to Cool it Window Tint in Upland, CA. where he had the back wrapped in a carbon fiber vinyl which we think provides an exotic look the mid-engine Corvette deserves.

As an early C8 owner, Sean was also able to take advantage of ordering Hennessey’s C8 Corvette exhaust which are now sold out. Other enhancements to the Stingray include the 5VM aero kit and a large rear wing from Aerrolarri.
